BlackBerry Addiction Or iPhone Addiction

The word addiction simply means the thing you can't live without. It can be a hobby, eatable, game or anything that makes you die if you don't do it. It's something like drug addiction that he who does drugs does it daily! No matter from where he has to manage drugs from he does it because he can't live without it.

Before we start discussing which of the two phones, BlackBerry or iPhone is more addicted first we shall have an overview of both of these phones.

BlackBerry:

Looking at the bright side, for years BlackBerry has proved to be one of the successful smart phones of the world. The phone's users are majority business men who prefer to keep a BlackBerry because BlackBerry is an elegant elite class phone and this adds a lot of worth to their personality and business as well. There are so many models of BlackBerry available these days from which the latest are BlackBerry Storm and Black Berry storm 2. Both of these models have made a massive sale of 50 million to 20 million customers as a whole. This means that there are a lot of berries and a lot of people around e-mailing and having fun with them.

The dark side of the BlackBerry also known as Berry in simple is that it is quite complicated. Though it has earned the fame of smart phone and has proved to be one of the best smart phone but still it is difficult to use for a beginner specially children and students.

iPhone:

iPhone is a new generation touch screen simple smart phone that has caught the eyes of millions of people around the world in as low as 3 years of time. This phone is designed by Apple, a world's leading company in the era of technology. The main idea behind the phone was to saturate a touch iPod into a mobile phone and Apple seems to have done it very well so far. With only three basic models in the world iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4G this smart phone has broken all the previous sales records.

The advantage of iPhone over BlackBerry is that iPhone is touch enabled and is quite easy to use as compared to a BlackBerry. Even a child and a college student can use this awesome phone anywhere and at any time.

Now after a quick review of both of these phones, you can yourself decide that which of these two phones is the most dangerous to cause you addiction. Obviously it's the iPhone because the phone is so simple and has almost everything in it that no one can ever resist it even your small child wanna have one. The most enchanting thing in this device is its big touch screen that gives the real pleasure of the phone. I've seen users of iPhone so addicted to it that one day my friend was playing game on it and her girlfriend called him. But he refused to listen to her because he was having more fun with his iPhone! Another story of addiction is that whenever my mom call me for dinner I say "Mom I'm not feeling hungry because I've to finish this game on my new iPhone!". iPhone accessories along with iPhone itself is very popular among the iPhone addicts.

The degree of addiction that can be caused to you by iPhone is so dangerous that it changes your whole life. Like everything has some advantages and some disadvantages, iPhone also has the same case. The phone will help you a lot if you use it in a proper way but it can also affect your life if not used properly.

Advantages:

* Add more style to your personality
* Everybody wanna be with you because your iPhone adds to all of your respect
* You can easily attract many people of opposite sex
* If you give your iPhone to a girl to give her number there isn't any chance that she refuses it
* It helps you in your daily life in certain different ways

Disadvantages:

* You become so addicted to the phone that you use it everywhere even while eating and in restroom
* Your parents and wife scolds you because you always remain busy with the phone
* It may also affect your health because it reduces your outdoor activities to a minimum level
* Studies of students may get affected if they become addicted to the phone.

iPhone Vs Android - Why Dump iPhone for Android?

When the iPhone first appeared on the market, it was a revolution in the mobile device area. Android took a while longer to materialize, but now that it is out there, some consumers are re-evaluating their "love affair" with iPhone. Learning from iPhone's mistakes, Android was able to capitalize on many iPhones features that users find frustrating. In fact there are plenty of good reasons to dump your iPhone for an Android device.

iPhone's Hideous Sync Options
Unlike the iPhone, the Android does not sync with the computer it is plugged into. One of the iPhone's pet peeves is its insistence on syncing with the computer it is plugged into. Innocently plug your iPhone into someone else's laptop, hit "sync" and watch all your content disappear.

Google Apps
While iPhone does provide a Gmail interface, this is where the buck stops, when it comes to Google apps. Not surprisingly, Android goes much further than iPhone in its integration with the Google suite. One example is the address book. Out-of-the-box, Android syncs its contacts with a Gmail account. This ensures that your contact records reside in a central location that can be accessed from any location and using various devices. Some Google applications host their data on the Google cloud instead of iTunes. This makes dumping the iPhone for Android especially attractive to those using Linux, and unable to run iTunes.

Multitasking
Multitasking has been one of the iPhone's worst enemies. Switching between apps requires pushing the dreaded "Home" button, which closes one app and opens another. This gets extremely annoying when reading an email, for example. Clicking on a link within an email message effectively closes the email client and opens a browser window. As simple a task as returning back to the email requires hitting the "Home" button once more and re-opening the email app.

The Android solves this by providing multitasking capabilities out-of-the-box. You can run multiple applications simultaneously without having to close any of them. A drop-down window notifies you of any changes in an application you are running in the background. Although switching between apps is yet to reach its performance optimum - there is an lag time when switching between apps - it is a prominent feature that iPhone lacks.

Web Browser
One of the best reasons to dump your iPhone for Android is the web browsing experience. The Android's built-in browser is fast, capable, and feature-rich. Unlike iPhone's Safari, it supports Flash, allowing you to view many more sites than on the iPhone and watch videos directly in your mobile browser window.

Unified Notifications
Another reason to dump your iPhone for Android is the Android's unified notification infrastructure. Android provides a single notification system available to Android app developers. This means that the Android can be configured to receive Facebook updates, weather alerts, tweets, Reddit submissions and other time-based events. The notification system allows you to stay on top of the things you care about without making the process overly cumbersome.

Open-Source Framework
Finally, Android is built on top of an open-source platform. While this may not matter to some, it may be crucial to others. Open-source software allows developers and device makers to have a much finer control over the phone hardware and the operating system that powers it. The iPhone's lack of support for Flash is the best illustration of the impact of open-source software. If Flash support were missing on Android, developers would be able to add it quickly without waiting for Google to develop one.

There are a number of compelling reasons to dump your iPhone for an Android phone. Android allows multitasking, integrates well with Google online suite, provides a central notification system, and a terrific web browsing experience. Finally, as an open-source platform, Android allows developers to customize it in limitless ways. Check out Android today and you will quickly find yourself wishing you had not gone to the Apple store.

Android Froyo Review - Frozen Yogurt by Google

Google has become one big name in the world of the internet for years. This has happened mainly thanks to the reliability of Google search engine which is mostly used worldwide. As a matter of fact, most internet users find content or information on the internet by entering relevant keywords into Google search engine. However, Google has also expanded its business to other aspects, one of which is mobile phone technology.

Within more or less the last 21 months, Google has been innovating in developing what they call Android which is really an operating system designed for mobile phones. There has been Android 2.0, 2.1 and finally today there is the Android 2.2 - or more commonly known as Android Froyo. Wait, you really think Google is making frozen yogurt like the ones you have at restaurants out there? Come on, give me a break!

But if you do use a mobile phone that comes with Google Android operating system, you should know further about this Android Froyo. Among all versions of Android operating system Google has developed so far, Android Froyo can be considered as the most complete and practical version. However, though, it is not really as complete as expected by most Android mobile phone users. There are still chances for patches here and there. But first, let's look at the improvements offered by this Google's Froyo.

To get things started, the first aspect of improvement is the speed. If you have been Android users for the past months, you should have known by now that Android has a persistent problem of lagging. Fortunately, that is now fixed. As a matter of fact, Android Froyo is able to boost overall performance by 2 to 5 times as much as previous versions of Android.

If you wonder how this is possible, here is how it works. One of the major improvements in Android is the just-in-time compiler. This compiler is developed for Dalvik. This is what makes things really fast in Google's frozen yogurt operating system. Related to the faster performance, Google claims that the battery life is getting a bit better in its Froyo. But don't expect too much!

The next improvement in this Froyo by Google is its browser's support for Adobe Flash technology. If you want to have this on your Android phone, it is optionally downloadable from the Android Market. One good thing - it seems - about the Flash support is that it can be activated when the user wants to do so. This way, the user will not have to wait for Flash scripts to load each time they are about to view web pages. However, there is also one drawback regarding the Flash technology for Android. It is not quite in final release yet. With that being said, Froyo user will not be able to experience what they can usually obtain from their desktop PCs such as H.264 video acceleration.

Now, what about Android Froyo interface? Well, it is still pretty complicated for some. But, one advantage for sure is that, today, the user has the option to protect it with a password. Another change is the interface that is shared by messaging applications and Google Talk. In Google's Android Froyo, these applications share black texts on some kind of purple background. Alright, that's it with the interface. What about other functionalities offered by this particular version of Android?

Speaking of functionalities, Android now enables its user to switch easily from one account to another by simply tapping the name of the account to switch to. The account names themselves are pretty accessible, waiting exactly at the top right hand corner.

Still speaking of functionalities, there are great improvements when it comes to camera applications. There is no more slider that fails every now and then - just like in Google's previous versions of Android. Instead, camera-related functions can now be found upfront.

One thing that we seem to miss in terms of functionalities is the Froyo's connectivity. Well, Froyo can be connected to a PC as means of USB storage. Yet, other connectivity innovation is that the user can now share 3G over their Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, only WPA2 security is available. Yet, one more thing important with regards to connectivity is of course social networking. Therefore, Google has built Facebook as well as Twitter into its Android frozen yogurt mobile operating system.

Yet, one last thing about functionalities is that the user is now offered with pinch-to-peek capability. This way, the user will not have to open every single program or gallery just to know what is running. This is similar to what Windows 7 offers and yes, this is pretty practical, at least to most users.

Is Android Fragmentation a Myth?

The Android platform has been developing at an almost dizzying pace lately. The number of new releases in a short period of time has lead many to warn that fragmentation has become a serious danger to Android. Google's Android team has responded saying that the Android fragmentation is a myth. Is fragmentation of Android a myth or is it something that should concern Android developers?

Fragmentation has affected Linux and other open source systems in the past. It occurs when a system has multiple versions with very different components. For example, Linux distributions have their own file system arrangements, different window managers and different packaging systems. This makes it difficult for application developers to create applications for Linux on the expectation that certain components will exist or be in the same location.

Causes of Fragmentation
Android has suffered from some of the classic causes of fragmentation. First, there are wide differences in the capabilities of the hardware devices on which Android runs. While in many systems, this could easily lead to severe fragmentation, Android has not been as affected by this. Android is, however, being very rapidly developed. Each new version of Android has added capabilities. Handsets on the market are running as many as five different versions of the Android operating system. This is where the greatest danger of fragmentation lies. Finally, different manufacturers have been dressing up Android with various add-ons and custom user interfaces. These variations in how Android looks and feels can also lead to fragmentation.

Google has responded to the many reports of Android fragmentation by calling it a "myth". They have put in place some systems and a plan that should help address the issue of fragmentation. Google is so sure of these plans that they believe fragmentation does not exist.

Fragmentation Prevention
One approach that Google is taking to prevent fragmentation is slowing down the development of Android. The rapid development allowed Google to add new functionality to Android and reach a level of maturity that makes Android competitive with other smartphone platforms. Now that Android is fully featured, the development can slow back down.

Along with slowing down the development of Android, Google has developed a plan to make Android more modular. This will allow users of Android based systems to update individual components of the Android system even if their carrier has not moved to a newer version of Android. For example, if a new version of Gmail is released, users can decide to upgrade Gmail on their phones. This modularity is being applied to various systems including items like the keyboard.

Another approach that Google has taken to try and prevent fragmentation of Android is to adopt a series of standards that must be followed to gain access to the Android market. These standards define minimal functionality that a handset must have in order for the carrier to ship the Android market with the phone. By controlling the market, Google has ensured that these standards will be adhered to. These standards generally deal with hardware and include things like every Android handset must have a camera. By using these standards, Google can assure developers that certain functionality will always be available on an Android phone.

Intents are another type of standard that Google uses to avoid functionality. An intent is a type of interface that Android uses. For example, an application that sends email will use an intent to launch a an email composition window. By using intents, it is possible to replace the default email client with another application and still have the expected behavior from other applications that write email.

Custom User Interfaces
While these systems certainly seem to help reduce the risk of fragmentation, calling it a myth seems to be a bit bold on Google's part. The biggest source of potential fragmentation seems to be custom user interfaces being applied to Android by various phone makers. It is not uncommon to see updates to applications in the Android market geared towards fixing a bug with a manufacturer's custom UI. Of course, using anecdotal evidence from the Android market to determine if custom user interfaces are fragmenting Android is not a very solid approach. It seems reasonable, however, that heavy customization of how Android looks and feels will fragment the platform.

This threat goes beyond just creating problems for developers. End users will not be able to pick up any Android handset and expect it to work in the same way. Various custom Androids start to present a learning curve for the end users which may reduce the uptake of Android.

Google says that fragmentation of Android is a myth based on the systems that they have in place to combat fragmentation. However, it does appear from browsing the market that developers are struggling somewhat with supporting the various versions of Android, the different handsets and especially the many custom user interfaces. Is fragmentation really a myth? Post a comment with your thoughts, especially if you are developing for Android and have encountered compatibility issues with a custom user interface.

Is Android the Future of Mobile Computing?

Devices like Apple's iPhone and the various versions of Blackberry smartphones are revolutionizing computing. Phones and phone-like devices are increasingly blurring the lines between notebook computers, netbooks and phones. The mobile computing revolution is on!

One platform, however, truly stands out as a potential game changer. That platform is the Android platform from Google. Is Android the future of mobile computing? There is certainly a strong potential for Android to shape the future of mobile computing.

Open System
Android's strength comes from its openness. The Android SDK is open source and the license governing Android itself allows any handset manufacturer to use and modify it. This allows Android to shape the future of mobile computing by making it available to any hardware manufacturer that wants to use it. This means that Android is likely to be the OS of choice for future mobile computing hardware like tablet PCs or e-book readers.

Android's openness also applies to the selection of mobile carrier. This is one area where many users have been unhappy with Apple's iPhone. Android is widely available which means that most wireless carriers have an Android handset available. Customers want choice. By giving them choice, Android positions itself as the future of mobile computing.

Development Kit
Android's greatest strength, however, is its development kit. In the history of computing, the platforms that supported the application developers best became the clear winners. Failure to support application developers with robust tools killed the really Apple platform and IBM's OS2. This is a mistake that Apple seems to be willing to repeat with the iPhone. The iPhone development tools are difficult to use and the application approval process seems terribly subjective at times. This makes iPhone application development unprofitable for many developers. In contrast, the Android development tools use Java and even C/C++. This allows developers to write applications for Android using languages they already know and use. Additionally, it allows them to use the tools they are already using such as Eclipse. The Android SDK also provides a very robust emulator so that application developers can test their Android applications without relying on physical hardware to do so. The future of mobile computing will largely be determined by the availability of the applications that end users want and need. In this regard, Android is a clear winner.

Fragmentation
The biggest danger to Android's dominance over the future of mobile computing is fragmentation. The ability of hardware vendors to extend Android without contributing their changes back to the Android project could lead to various incompatible versions of Android. To some extent, this has already happened as developers have had to struggle some to make their applications to support different hardware capabilities. This fragmentation of Android would make it harder for application developers to write code for Android. Since the support of application developers is crucial to the success of any computing platform, fragmentation could be a serious threat to Android as the future of mobile computing.

Is Android the future of mobile computing? I think the answer is that it certainly could be. Android's open nature makes it possible for hardware developers to use it for whatever new devices they can imagine. Its SDK makes it easy for application developers to create the applications users want and need. Both factors make Android a strong contender for the shape of the future of mobile computing. However, there is a danger that hardware vendors will customize Android to the extent that the platform becomes fragmented. If this happens, it will be harder for application developers to write for Android and this could endanger its lead position as the future of mobile computing.

10 Free Android Apps That Will Actually Make You Money While Shopping!

Shopping is either pure bliss or torture depending on who you ask. Regardless of which end of the spectrum you are on, Android apps will help you save money and allow you to become a more efficient shopper (which I'm sure appeals to most of you). So what does that entail? It'll give the shopaholics more bang for their buck, which is never a bad thing. Perhaps even more importantly, these Android apps will provide shopaphobes what they really crave- less time in the stores!

The pure power and functionality of these Android apps can really make shopping virtually an all new experience. No matter if these apps function as a shopping list, database, storefront or a supplemental knowledge source, they're all squarely aimed at one thing: if you use them, they will save you money!

You're getting a feeling like Android shopping apps, in general, might just help you, right? Well here are 10 Android apps that will save you money while they help you fulfill all your shopping needs and desires. Oh and did I mention that all these ten are completely FREE to download?

SnapTell

Want to know more about an item you saw on the rack? Just use SnapTell to scan the barcode of any CD, DVD, book or video game and you will be able to get all the information you could possibly need. What type of information? Well, if you just want some more cursory information, that'll work. Most notably, if you want to see how the price stacks up to other distributors, it can do that for you in seconds. This app could be a big time money-saver for you if you take the time to use it before you make that next media purchase!

Key Ring Reward Cards

This is a very handy app to consolidate all your clutter in your purse/wallet while ensuring that you don't lose valuable reward/loyalty cards. How does it work? All you do is take a snapshot of the barcode of your reward card (just about any decent sized company with a rewards program is in the database- over 650 programs) and enter some basic information about the store. That's it; you're now ready to use your phone as your reward card at that store in the future by pulling up your reward information from that store on this Android app. It's probably not for non-techies or those who crave extreme simplicity. It is, however, a great idea and technology that will no doubt get crisper in the future.

If you don't mind carrying all your reward cards and potentially losing one or two along the way (and having to suffer through the wait to replace the card), this free Android app sounds like a waste of time. But, if the extra inch of not-so-soft plastic padding for your rump (or the misuse of perfectly good purse space- not to mention the potential inability to use your chic tiny purse out shopping) isn't idyllic, this app is worth the few minutes to download and get everything set up properly.

OurGroceries

This is the perfect app for the happy, busy family of Android phone users. It allows the kids to endlessly add all their necessary foods. When the items are purchased, they can be removed from the list (on all the Android phones it's registered to) and then, 4 hours later, they can easily be added back onto the list! Joking aside, this is a great app to have for the new-age hyper busy, hyper tech families that want to become more efficient.

Hey, it costs a lot of money to keep purchasing that extra loaf of bread that your husband/wife (or even you- thanks to that undecided hmmm, don't we need bread moment even though you just bought two loaves yesterday- yes you're not alone!) just picked up and will end up turning green before anyone has a chance to make a sandwich with it.

OI Shopping list

To me, this app, fully named the OpenIntents Shopping list, is like the OurGroceries for the single folks out there. Not to say a family wouldn't benefit from this app, it just has more features and it's not a perfect fit like the other app is for families that need a simple solution to keep up on their latest shopping needs. That being said, this app is a powerful workhorse and can really end up saving you countless hours and some decent cash at year's end.

US Yellow Pages Search

This is one of the more useful free Android apps available and I'll be honest, it doesn't 100% fit with the theme of helping you save money while shopping. I could argue that it does, but for simplicity, I'll just use an old clich: Time is Money! Saving some time is just as good as saving cash on those busy days out and about. Having this app on your Android phone is like having 300 super-thick Yellowbooks from all over the US crammed into your back pocket. Not a bad thing if you travel a decent amount or enjoy living outside of your house. It's just a great resource to have on hand for those times when you need to find a business's number fast.

eBay

This official app brings eBay to your Android phone. It's kind of crazy, but I think I like this UI better than the actual website on my computer. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad. Nonetheless, it gives you an idea that this Android app was developed correctly and really hits the mark. That is, if you're an eBay fan; if you're not, sorry!

Amazon.com

Similar to eBay's Android app, this beauty from Amazon brings all the functionality from the full-sized website to your Android phone. It's amazing how seamless this transition appears for these giant resellers. This is a great thing for us though!

Craigslist

The last of the GIANT resellers' Android apps on this list, I promise. Well, kind of: if you don't include Groupon in your list of "resellers", I haven't lied to you. So, if you've ever used Craigslist, you know how utterly important it is to check out a potential "killer item" within 5 minutes of it being posted and subsequently be the first handful of people to contact the seller to have any hopes of actually ending up with it in your possession.

That being said, if you use Craigslist and you have an Android phone, YOU NEED THIS APP NOW! Haha, sorry to scream, but if you're going to use this portal of goodness with the hopes of eventually buying something you want/need, you have to have instant access to newly posted items. The only way to do that (I'm taking liberties assuming you aren't a recluse and on your home computer 24/7) is to have access "on-the-go" to instant notifications for your set of items that interest you and also a way to view them. This app performs both of these necessary actions and does them well.

*Please, for your sake, if you want to be the guy (gal) bragging about the awesome deal you got on the "coolest thing in the world" instead of the not-so-happy version of you regrettably telling the story about "the one that got away" to anyone who will listen, download this app!*

Groupon

This is the official app from the immensely popular and rapidly growing Groupon website. This site has a "cult-like" following (not in a bad way!) which actually benefits its users. Essentially, the more people that use their services, the more offers are presented to the users and that helps all of us save a good amount of money! This free Android app ensures that you're never out of the "Groupon loop" and you'll have the opportunity to take advantage of the appealing offers wherever you may be.

The Coupons App

Another money-saving coupon app? Yes! That's all I can say- the prospects of saving a buck in this economy is a powerful force it seems. I'm almost a bit surprised at myself that I didn't completely inundate this "shopping list" with coupon apps (patting myself on the shoulder for spreading out the love). If only I could go back in time to 1989 and use this app instead of clipping 500-plus coupons from the Sunday paper (for my mom). Well those were good times- minus the paper cuts.

What's this Android app going to do for you? Anything and everything coupon related; it brings the coupons with you on your phone and allows you to find new ones even while you're at the store! That's pretty awesome for those of us not commanding "Top CEO" salaries...

Honorable Mention:

There's only one free Android app that I would consider putting on this list. The reason is because it's probably the most important app for everyone to download today. I consider it more of a "mandatory app" than an Android shopping app and that's why it's here.

The app I'm speaking of is the Barcode Scanner. Among other things, it allows you to browse the web on your computer and take a photo of the QR Code of an app you're interested in downloading. Once the code is processed (which takes very little time- talking seconds), the corresponding Android app's download page appears in the Google Marketplace! It's that simple and works like a charm once you get past the short "operator error" stage that plagues most of us.
